Prefers rocky and weedy bottoms.

Considered poor eating.

Spearfishing
Not normally speared because it is regarded as a poor table fish.

Interesting Information
The banded wrasse is the largest wrasse found in New Zealand waters growing up to 60cm long and  up to 5kgs. Banded wrasse are thought to have a life-span of over 25 years.
