Most common in the South Island.
Legal size
30-33cm depending where you are.Fishing for blue cod is banned in the Marlborough Sounds.
Eating
White fillets, suitable for all methods of cooking.
Habitat
Mainly rocky bottoms although they can be found in almost any type of habitat.
Spearfishing
Creating a burley is a sure-fire way of attracting any large blue cod in the area. Once feeding they won’t be going far, so take your time and try to shoot them in the head so you leave undamaged fillets.
