Wetsuit
The most commonly used wetsuit in NZ is a two piece 5mm with two piece 3mm being popular in summer and two piece 7mm used in winter (especially the further south you go).

Fins
Traditionally plastic fins were the most common fins for all divers, but over the last few years a new breed of fin has started to take over the market, these are fins made from primarily fibre-glass as well as carbon fibre and sometimes Kevlar. While they were initially expense the price has been dramatically dropping meaning more and more divers are using these high performance fins.

Gun
The standard guns used here are 100cm and 120cm guns. Generally, during the winter a smaller gun such as a 100cm is used as the fish targeted are usually shot at close range and don’t require the extra range or power larger guns offer. However, during the summer the main target species change and a longer range is needed. While it is possible to catch kingfish with shorter guns using a 120cm or larger makes it a lot easier.
