Scuba Gear

Here's some factors you may want to consider when purchasing scuba gear.

Diver

Will I be diving from a boat or walking with my gear?
If your going to be walking with your gear it may pay to have gear that fits well above water as well as underwater. Also check to see if it will fit into a suitable bag for carrying your gear.

Will I be diving in a wash (white water environment)?
If your entering the water where there are rocks and a swell your going to want something that has everything secure and things that could get caught up in cracks are able to be contained.

Do I want integrated weights or a weight belt?
Having integrated weights means some of your weight will be in your BCD instead of on your weight belt. This can be handy if you already have a lot of weight on your weight belt or dislike using weight belts. However, if you’re passing your gear up to someone after hopping out or taking your gear off underwater this can become a pain.

Dive computer or not?
While a dive computer isn’t in everyone’s price range, having a computer is a great way to enhance your diving experience and give you real time information on depth and dive times.

What knife to buy?
Make sure it’s sharp, not too large and easy to reach. A knife is primarily for cutting seaweed and line if you ever happen to get stuck.

What mask do I need?
You want a mask that doesn’t leak, provides a wide field of vision and is comfortable. To ensure the mask won't leak, press the mask against your face, it should suck onto your face and stay there when you take your hands away.
