At the great barrier the options for fishing are endless.In the weedy shallows you can target large snapper as well as John Dory and out on the weed-lines fish like Tarakihi and Trevally as well as Pink Mao Mao during the summer Kahawai,Kingfish Koheru and Trevally school around the exposed points and pinnacles particularly at the northern end.
Out the back of the barrier is perfect for targeting Grouper and Golden Snapper as well as trolling for Marlin during the summer.

If your into rugged rarely dived reefs as well as lots of Crayfish the great barrier is a great place to dive.the only downsides can be the long trip over and the usually poorer visibility.

A great place for snapper snooping,weed-line diving and pinnacle diving.The most popular end is normally the northern end however the snapper snooping and weed-line diving are good all over.The main speared species are Snapper,Kingfish,John Dory,Trevally,Boarfish and butterfish.
