Gurnard

Scientific name
Chelidonichthys kumu
Legal size
25cm.
Eating
A very nice fish to eat, firm pinkish white flesh.
Habitat
Sandy/muddy bottoms.

Fishing
Using small baits tend to have the greatest sucess along with small hooks. Another key thing is to use burley as these fish are spread out along the sand.

Top Of the South
The main areas to catch these are: Croisilles Harbour, Abel Tasman, Port Underwood, and Golden Bay.

Auckland
Can be found in the Firth of Thames and areas such as the back of Kawau Island and Omaha beach.


Spearfishing
Often seen when diving for scallops. An easy fish to approach, a headshot from above is recommended. Also attracted to burleys on sandy bottoms.
