Queen Charlotte Sound

Carpet SharkPaua

Fishing
A popular location to fish for blue cod. The best method we’ve found is fishing off exposed points with a burley about a metre off the bottom. Other common
catches are snapper, trevally, kahawai and kingfish.

Spearfishing
The outer Queen Charlotte Sounds provide several great locations to spearfish from Blumine Island,
Cape Koamaru, Cape Jackson and several exposed outer rocks. The most common fish are the usual “table” fish (butterfish, blue cod, blue moki) it’s not unusual to see copper moki and sometimes snapper and trevally.

Scuba Diving
With the Long Island marine reserve, abundant crayfish throughout the outer part of the sound and loads
of juicy scallops in the inner sounds, there are lots of options. Some of the best scallops come from near Picton so a big boat isn’t always necessary to enjoy the rewards of Queen Charlotte Sound.
