Blue Moki

Blue MokiScientific name
Latridopsis ciliaris
Area
Most common from East Cape south.
Legal size
40cm.
Eating
Best suited to smoking and baking.
Habitat
Primarily hang around a certain feature (rock, point and weed edge etc)

Fishing
Not normally targeted; however, using crayfish as bait and fishing at night have produced results, can be a strong fighter when hooked.

Spearfishing
Normally a rather easy fish to approach and shoot. Try looking off points and on all sides of any large rocks. Generally if you see one moki, it is very likely that a school is nearby. Once a school of moki has been found, diving down and sitting on the bottom and allowing the school to swim around you is a good method because sometimes there are much larger moki hanging out the back of the school. Provided the shot is good these fish are rather easy to land as they don’t seem to have a large amount of fight in them.
